My date with a rheumatologist

Because I know you are all on the edge of your seats I'm going to tell you about my doctor appointment today.

It was 70 degrees here.

When I woke up this morning I felt good.

No aches.

"Ay crap." I think to myself . She's going to push my joints and they'll be just fine.

Then she'll tell me I'm a nut job and send me home.

This was not the case. We talked for a long time about my "history".

She said it was okay that I felt good today. She said that it is common for people traveling down from the cold arctic (Alaska) say they feel better here in sunny California.

My doctor came to the conclusion that I have Rheumatoid Arthritis.

I don't know whether to feel relieved or depressed. I should feel some relief to be able to move forward and treat the problem. But I still feel like we're missing something. It could be denial, I'm sure that's part of the process, but these are serious drugs I'll be taking. As a precaution I was given all sorts of vaccines today to help prepare my body for when I'll be taking immune suppressants.  My arm hurts.

I really appreciate all of your love and support. All of you who have commented, prayed, asked my husband questions, sent emails, texts, or phone calls have TRULY made this process easy for me. I am so blessed.

Now, just a small favor, will you all just say a quick prayer in my behalf that my hands will never look like this:

Wow...that picture is kinda scary! So I did my research...yuck! You poor girl...I wish there was more to say! My prayer is that you can get it under control and stop the damage that can make your body look like this. Your young...isn't it good to find out and start taking meds young? Although...that is A LOT of years of putting harmful drugs into your body. Chablis...I wish that you were not dealing with this. I wish your body was acting like a mid 20's body and not being so dumb. Why is your beautiful dancing flexible body making this so tough?

Oh girl...sorry. That really sucks. One of my co workers wife has this as well. He said she does really well on meds now, but they make you feel kinda crappy until you get used to them. Here's to hoping that you get used to them FAST! Prayers coming your way!

We need to talk lady! Consider yourself in the "Tough Chicks with RA Club." It's very exclusive and hard to get into ;) And stay off the scary picture websites. You are not 80 and won't look like that! I love you!!!

I have to disagree with Jill...it doesn't seem that hard of a club to get into it if so many people have it!! What a bummer, but like you said what a blessing to finally know something. It's also a blessing that this is your last winter in AK. You will be moving to such warmer weather and maybe that will help? Good luck and I'm sorry Lydia got sick and I couldn't watch them...I was looking forward to them!

No offense...but I really hope that I will not be joining your club! (Although my joints, swollen knuckles and the fact that I still can't wear my wedding ring doesn't help my optimistic outlook!)
I'm grateful that you know what is going on, even though it sinks.
You are amazing and continue to be in our prayers!!

Chablis, I have been out of the loop for way too long. I had no idea that your body had been aching for so long. I am really glad that you got some answers and some treatment for what you've been dealing with. I hope you are doing well.
